For too long, Black queer men have been framed as subjects, never architects—of media, of policy, of our own futures. While we've built BLKOUT from whispered conversations into a movement, we now face a pivotal choice: remain in the precarious shadows of dependency or claim the power of formal collective ownership.The choice is clear. Beyond Good Intentions: Our 14-Week Liberation Strategy

We deserve a media platform that reflects our realities and amplifies our voices.

This isn't just another administrative exercise. This is about transforming BLKOUT into a Community Benefit Society—a legal entity that puts ownership directly in our hands. With Co-operatives UK support already secured, we have a 14-week window to make this leap. The alternative? Continuing to build on foundations we don't own, telling stories through platforms we don't control

We're not interested in a process that drags on interminably while our community waits.Our accelerated 14-week transformation will move us from conversation to incorporation with sufficient time for deliberation.Our new structure will open up further opportunities for us to increase the impact of our work. We can't wait to get started.

Weeks 1-3: Assembling Our Architects

  • Form a working group (5-7 community members) who will shape our future

  • Clear commitment: 15-20 hours total over 14 weeks (including reading time)

  • First meeting (early April): A fire-starting session mapping our collective vision

Weeks 4-8: Designing Our House

  • Draft our rules with sharp legal teeth and community heart

  • Map out membership structures that centre Black queer voices

  • Create governance that distributes power rather than concentrates it

  • Develop financial models with potential to build collective wealth

Weeks 9-16: Claiming Our Power

  • Submit our registration and begin the countdown to formal existence

  • Launch our founding membership campaign—50 members who can say "I built this"

  • Design the rituals and relationships that transform members from audience to owners

  • Host a launch that isn't just a party* but a declaration of presence
